Lightwalker Laser

We are pleased to announce that we have recently acquired a dental laser for our office, the LightWalkerTM. This laser is designed to treat both teeth and gums, allowing us to offer our patients a variety of exciting new treatment options. We are proud to be among the first of a growing number of dental offices nationwide to acquire this breakthrough laser technology.

One of the most exciting new treatments we can offer with this laser is pain-free cavity preparations without anesthetic injections and numbness. While the laser does not replace the dental drill in every case, when it does you will love the absence of the drill whine and vibration!

This laser also allows us to treat gum (periodontal) disease right in our office. The treatment is a gentle and effective way to stop the damage being done by the infection in the gums. Patients who have had this form of laser treatment report that they have little or no discomfort after the procedure.

Please call our office at (503)738-9273 for more information about these laser procedures and their applicability to your dental needs. We appreciate the opportunity to provide you with these gentle, effective new laser treatment options.

Virtually Painless

Are you scared of going to the dentist because you’ll hear the dreaded drill screeching in your ear? Or maybe you are terrified of the needle? – And who likes leaving the dental office with a droopy or puffy face? All these dental fears can be minimized with a LightWalkerTM Laser dentist. The LightWalkerTM is a dental laser that enables the dentist to use minimal and even no anesthetic or drills to perform many routine dental procedures!

Natural Water-Powered Dentistry

The LightWalkerTM combines water, air and laser energy for safe use on human tissue in the mouth. Our teeth are partially made up of water and when the laser makes contact with the tooth it excites the water molecules to cut through the tooth. Since the laser continuously sprays out water it keeps the tooth hydrated preventing heat and giving you a virtually pain free experience!

It’s More Convenient

Even for those who floss, brush, and use fluoride regularly, sometimes you still end up with a cavity. Between work, school, and children, plus everything else, there is no time to schedule another dental appointment. Now you don’t have to worry because your LightWalkerTM dentist can do it all at the same time. Since it’s less likely you will need an injection to fill your cavity, your dentist can do multiple simple procedures in a single visit! A LightWalkerTM dentist saves you the hassle of going to a specialist.

Safe and Precise

Lasers for use in dermatology, ophthalmology and cosmetics have been around for years and so has the LightWalkerTM. Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1998, the LightWalkerTM is cleared for numerous procedures and can be safely used on all ages.

What is great about the LightWalkerTM is how precise it is! Regular dental drills rely on removing large amounts of tooth to get the job done, and the constant grinding and spinning of a drill. The LightWalkerTM, on the other hand, removes very precise amounts of tooth, without damaging or cracking the rest of the tooth! And because it is so precise, you will rarely need anesthetic!

For a dental choice that is both safe and precise, choose a LightWalkerTM dentist near you. It is the clear way to go!

Reduce the Risk of Cross-Contamination

If you have ever had food poisoning, you know what cross-contamination is: encountering bacteria where you don’t expect it. The potential for cross-contamination between patients in any dental or medical environment is a real and widely documented risk.

Light Walker has potential to reduce this risk. It works without contact to the tooth and the dentist can operate without tips so you don’t have to worry about what might have been in someone else’s mouth.

No Extra Charge

Most Light Walker dentists do not charge anything extra to use the LightWalkerTM Laser for your procedure. * They offer LightWalkerTM because they feel it improves the quality of their dentistry. Often using LightWalkerTM allows the dentist to be more productive – avoiding the delay of waiting for anesthetic to take effect, enabling the dentist to do more procedures during one appointment, and making it possible for the dentist to perform procedures that used to be referred out to specialists. This saves you and the dentist time and money!

Imagine that – high-tech dentistry that costs the same as conventional dentistry.

*Price and participation may vary.

PATIENT COMFORT

Heat, vibration and pressure are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional dental drill. Since laser dentistry for both hard and soft tissues (teeth and gums) does not generate heat, vibration or pressure, many dental procedures can be performed with fewer shots, less need for anesthesia, less use of the drill and fewer numb lips! In many gum procedures, laser dentistry reduces bleeding, post-operative pain, swelling and the need for pain medication.

ACCURACY AND PRECISION

Dr. White is able to remove decay in tooth enamel (the hardest substance in the body), as well as excess bone and gum tissue precisely while leaving surrounding areas unaffected. This conserves healthy tooth structure.

REDUCED TRAUMA

The dental drill can cause hairline cracks and fractures in teeth that may lead to future dental problems. Dr. White performs laser dentistry which minimizes trauma, reducing damage to healthy portions of your tooth. In addition to this, the laser disinfects the tooth, killing bacteria, as it prepares the tooth for the filling.

IMPROVED CAVITY FILLINGS

Laser dentistry cavity preparations can increase bond strength of tooth-colored restorations, resulting in longer lasting fillings. Studies have shown a two to three fold increase in bond strength of tooth-colored fillings to teeth prepared with the Er:YAG laser.

LESS BLEEDING AND SWELLING

Due to its conservative, gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities, Dr. White performs many gum procedures with little or no bleeding and less swelling and less healing time after your procedure.

FEWER DENTAL VISITS

Since you often do not need shots or anesthesia, Dr. White can perform cavity preparations in all areas of the mouth in just one visit. This technology also gives the Dr. White the ability to perform many procedures that were previously referred to specialists.

GREATER CONVENIENCE Laser dentistry is extremely versatile. It can be used for a wide range of hard and soft tissue procedures – from decay removal and cavity preparation to root canals, smile design, surgical procedures on gum and bone, and many others. Since your laser dentist can perform a wider range of procedures you may be able to avoid an additional trip to a specialist, saving you valuable time.

Frenectomies for Breastfeeding Health, Speech Impediments, Tooth-Malposition, or Improvement of Gum Health. Does your infant have a difficult time nursing? Has your toddler flinched away as you brush their top front teeth because you bump their lip with the toothbrush? Is your preschooler struggling with certain speech sounds? It’s possible that your child has something as simple as a tongue-tie or lip-tie that is causing these problems. The problem occurs when the fiber attachments of the tongue or the lip are in the wrong position, and it’s easily corrected with a surgical procedure called a frenectomy. Your pediatrician, lactation consultant or speech pathologist may have already mentioned to you that your child needs to have this procedure. We perform frenectomies for newborns, toddlers, preschoolers and older, using a soft tissue laser to reduce trauma and promote faster healing. Please talk with our staff to find out more; it’s a common problem with a simple solution!
